Hormone-producing tumors are often discovered by accident
Neuroendocrine tumors are very slow growing tumors that often go undetected for many years. Misdiagnosis is not uncommon since vague symptoms such as hot flashes or diarrhea are often mistaken for other conditions. Doctors often discover these tumors when a patient is undergoing an imaging test such as a CT scan or MRI while investigating another ailment.
